Buying Blythes and Accessories
Buying Blythes
Takara’s Neo Blythes are created and marketed in Japan, and only a few select stores in the U.S. and Europe are allowed to sell them. If you can’t get to Japan, don’t despair. There are many places online to buy them. Some sites allow for pre-orders of new releases as well.
Online forums such as the one at This is Blythe are also great places to fine used/cheaper dolls.
Because Blythes can be so expensive, it’s probably a good idea to determine the average selling price for a particular doll before you commit to purchasing it. Fishberry Jam has an excellent price list with actual prices paid for recent Blythes.
Clothing and accessories
Blythes are a approximately 11 1/2 inches (27 cm) tall like most fashion dolls, but much of their height comes from their large heads. Blythe bodies are actually smaller than the typical fashion doll. Barbie clothes rarely fit, but Skipper and Mary Kate & Ashley doll clothes fit fairly well. A few other dolls are about the same size: Francie, Casey, Sandy (byElite), World of Love (Hasbro), Licca (Takara), and Jenny (Takara). Some Bratz clothes will fit as well. Shoes are even harder to find, but Skipper and Jenny shoes usually fit, as well as Rement sets.
Blythe fans love to sew clothes for their dolls, thus there are a lot of places to buy Blythe clothes, both custom sewn or mass produced. A simple search for “blythe clothes” in Google leads to hundreds of hits.

Doll house building and accessories
If you would like to create a doll house for your doll(s), it is useful to know that Blythe is considered a 12 in. doll, or 1:6 scale doll. This means that two inches in the Blythe world equal 1 foot in our world. This scale is sometimes referred to as fashion doll scale or Playscale. Because most regular doll houses are created at a 1 inch (1:12) scale (1 inch = 1 foot), it can be difficult to find pre-made doll houses or kits on the correct scale for Blythe. There are a few Playscale design books, however, many Blythe fans simply use bookshelves or boxes to create houses for their dolls. Doll house accessories are easier to find, since most Barbie and Brats appliances and furniture fit well. There are Japanese sellers with Blythe size accessories (namely, Re-ment).
